Do you examine children?
The answer is yes. While our practice is not a NHS provider and does not provide NHS funded Sight Test for under 16s, a child can be examined here for a comprehensive eye examination as a private pay patient.
What would my child get with a private test than he/she can't get with a NHS funded exam?
At this practice all children will have the Optos Daytona advanced retinal imaging and longer testing times spent with the optometrist.
What is a kids NHS Sight Test?
Children in the UK who are under 16 and 16-18 in full time education are eligible for a fully funded sight test with an NHS provider location if it deemed clinically necessary. This is of no charge to the patient and the child will also receive additional funding towards the cost of spectacles if they are needed which may cover all or part of the costs.
My child has already had a sight test at school so they don't need one
Not true. Schools offer vision screenings which are not a replacement for a full assessment by an optometrist. Many conditions are missed during a school screenings. They are not a replacement for a proper eye examination.
In addition to routine comprehensive eye examinations for children, at this practice you will find additional services such as myopia management and colorimetry examinations.
Nearly 90% of children visit their dentist regularly in the UK but suprisingly only 53% have ever had a sight test!
Make sure to have your child's eyes tested BEFORE they start school and every 2 years after or sooner as recommended by your optometrist.
