Coronavirus - Patient Information

With the news of the possible outbreak of the Coronavirus here in the UK, our practice would like to update our patients. There is sense of worry with many regarding this new virus and how it may impact us living here in the Newbury area.  At Valarie Jerome Optometrists, we understand your worry,

We are following and recommending the UK government's guidance to prevent the spread, delay and contain the virus.

To best prevent the spread of infection...

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water.  Wash vigorously for 20 seconds.  If not available, then use hand gel sanitiser. Be extra vigilant with hand washing if taking public transport.

  • Avoid touching your face - your mouth, eyes and nose.  This is so easy to say but we don't realise how often we do this during the day.  If you are a contact lens user, you can't avoid touching your eyes but only insert contacts after hand washing.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are ill.

  • Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze with a tissue or sneeze into your sleeve or elbow. Immediately throw away the tissue - "Catch it, Bin it, Kill it".

  • If you are feeling unwell, stay at home. Do not attend school or work.

  • Clean and disinfect frequently used items in your home and/or business.

  • If you are worried about your health, phone 111.  Do not visit your GP.

We will continue to maintain the highest levels of hygiene in our practice.  Those procedures include...

  • Frequent, vigorous hand washing for 20 seconds during the work day

  • Disinfection of exam equipment before and after each patient use

  • Disinfection of all our frames and display furniture in our practice

  • Providing anti-bac gel to our patients

If you have traveled to any countries in the government's Category 1 specified countries and areas in the last 14 days, we ask that you defer any visits to this practice.

To avoid overcrowding, we are asking for patients to phone in to book for any spectacle adjustments, eye exams/contact lens appointments or for collection of their new spectacles. If you have Apple Pay or contactless, we are encouraging our patients to use that when making a payment.
